Zitta Smith - Jewellery, Beadwork
I was brought up in the Netherlands but have lived for many years in North London with my British husband.
My professional career included writing and teaching language courses, running seminars for European politicians, and managing the office of a German political trust.
Throughout my working life I always felt that I needed an artistic outlet, and I have rediscovered the satisfaction of working with beads which I first explored in my university years.
About my work
For the last 15 years I have produced serious creative work and have studied bead weaving and jewellery in Britain, Turkey and the USA, where I have attended master classes in New York, Milwaukee, California and Georgia.
I like to use bold colour combinations and always take particular care that my jewellery enhances the clothes with which they are meant to be worn. Commissions for particular occasions or specific outfits are my favourite design challenges. I often use geometric patterns and shapes, and I am fond of creating a diversity of beaded beads.
I have exhibited my work in South-West France, tutored courses in France and Britain, and sold my work in Europe and the USA. I have taken part in the Artists’ Open House and Open Studio events in July 2015 and 2016 and 2017. I exhibited at the Hornsey Library in September 2015 and December 2016, participated in the "Art and Artefact" exhibition in October 2016 in Hampstead. I have also exhibited my work in October 2017 at the Ply Gallery at the Hornsey Town Hall and at the Artists Winter Fair in November 2018. From 6th until 27th March 2019 I will exhibit at the Barbican Library.
