Tony Berkman - Painting, Prints, Ceramics
About the Artist:
Tony worked for 30 years as a local authority social worker until taking early retirement in 2004. This afforded him an opportunity to pursue his long-standing ambition to study and make art. After attending his local adult institute and completing an art foundation course, he studied art at Middlesex University at degree level graduating in 2012 with a BA (hons) in Fine Art. He draws inspiration from a wide variety of life-experience and a love of a broad range of artists including Rothko, Hepworth, Epstein and Hockney. As a teenager he enjoyed visiting galleries and values having lived in London all his life as well as having travelled to many parts of the world. His earlier artwork was heavily influenced by his work experiences and a fascination of urban living and urban architecture.
Since graduating he has worked from a studio space in Enfield, North London, where he has been developing his abstract painting, primarily concerned with an exploration of light, movement and colour. Tony makes and stretches his own canvases. He has shown his work at various group and solo exhibitions and more recently had work sold through a London gallery at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea and Hampstead. When time and facilities permit, Tony also enjoys working with clay and other 3D materials and printmaking.
