Pat Marvell - Glass
About me: After a career in education and public sector consultancy, I did what I had always really wanted, and started to work with glass. I took a number of courses covering stained glass and painting, fusing , slumping and blowing, but it was when I discovered casting that I knew that was what I had been looking for. I took two diploma courses at Westminster, then set up my own studio at home in Finchley.
About my work: Inspiration can come from anywhere, but more often than not it is the fluidity and colour I see in nature that forms the starting point for my thinking. I very much enjoy experimenting with process, pushing the boundaries of what I have previously achieved by asking myself ‘what if...?’ As a result I use a variety of materials to create original forms, including ice, clay, wax, fabric and natural materials, and play with firing processes to crate different results.
