Ulla Mead - Painting, Ceramics
I trained as a ceramicist in the early 80's but have spent most of my working life as a ceramic jeweller.
About 18 months ago, having decided to give up working with clay altogether a twist of fate brought me back to making hand-built one-off pots again which is how I originally started out and what interests me most.
About my work
My forms are slab built and mainly raku fired. I'm fascinated by the process of raku but due to its unpredictability and high wastage I am constantly experimenting with alternative ways of achieving similar effects.
Over the last 10 years I have also developed a passion for painting especially in watercolour. I am particularly interested in painting the human form and attend life-drawing groups on a regular basis.
My painting is also increasingly influenced by my work in 3 dimensions.
