About me: As a child I had endless supplies of beautiful white paper from my paper merchant father and spent my life drawing. At school I studied life drawing and sculpture but thereafter only dabbled in art until I took up ceramics, then silk painting and lastly printing. I love the earthiness of clay and its miraculous transmutation in the kiln, the vibrant colour and flow of silk inks and the drawn line of print.
About my work: As I was a storyteller in my work as a librarian, my artwork is often narrative in nature and inspired by an eclectic mix of ancient history, ethnic craft and twentieth century art. I am equally attracted to texture, colour and line and find the different features of ceramics, silk painting and printing satisfying. I use painting in my ceramics and printing in my silks, and sometimes use the same theme in each format.
