Gail Altschuler - Painting, Ceramics
I live and work in Finchley Central. I was born in South Africa, Art history was my first encounter with gaining an art education. I studied in Holland at The Rietveld Academy, specialising in Environmental Design, Art planned with architectural placement in mind. I moved to the UK in 1989, I did a PGCE and MA in Art and Design Education at the Institute of Education, University of London.
About my work
I started my career as a silkscreen printer, printing large colourful works on paper used for interior design in hotels and offices. These works are to be found in corporate collections in South Africa, Europe, USA, Japan and the UK. In 2001 during a six month period in California I concentrated on painting, oils on canvas, combining my printing techniques with painting methods. I am inspired by the natural world, trees, colours and pattern making. I have a kiln and am exploring developing my work with clay, a material I have been passionate about since the age of sixteen. Besides selling my work through art consultants and exhibitions, I also teach art to children and adults.
I currently run an art school from my home/studio called 'The Art Circle', offering weekly classes covering drawing, painting, printmaking, art history and ceramics.
