Yulia Badian's work plays with the principle of Gestalt "A physical, biological, psychological or symbolic configuration or pattern of elements so unified as a whole that its properties cannot be derived from a simple summation of its parts."

Using a palette of contrasting and complementary acrylics and meandering exotic forms these paintings reveal spaces that shift from figure to ground and back again. The resultant images are like a swirling visual cocktail that works first upon the eye and then on the imagination The viewer is never quite sure exactly what they are looking at . There could be details of plants, human anatomy or imaginary characters.
