Karen Fraser has been making films and videos since 1986. She trained at the Polytechnic of East London under John Smith, and at West Surrey College of Art and Design, where she won a college-wide competition for her graduation film Peregrine, which went on to win a British Council Travel Award, and was shown at the Bombay Film Festival, Fantasporto in Portugal and numerous UK film festivals. More recently Karen has moved into making art films which she has shown at the 291 Gallery, through the EFO and abroad. Her latest films have studied a variety of themes: the manipulation of directors and the hope that love offers (The Kiss), the body’s irrepressible expression of spirit (Cavepainting), and Giftful, a meditation on land. Karen is a filmmaker and photographer, and works to commission. She is currently studying for an MA in History of Film and Visual Media at Birkbeck, and is the video course team leader at Westminster Adult Education Service. |
