I am fascinated by the handwritten, both formal and informal, and how it can express the essence of words and emotions in a visual form. I always choose a medium to suit the text I am engaged with . So it can be an historical script or invented alphabet, written with nib or brush using ink, paint or gold leaf on vellum, paper or etched metal. I love the effect of extures, pattern , colour and the play of light on surfaces . I use my skills to create contemporary lettering art that has aesthetic quality as well as a message to engage with .
