Daphne Carnegy

About Daphne

Daphne Carnegy is a professional potter specialising in tin-glazed earthenware.

My Work

Daphne Carnegy trained in France and at Harrow School of Art, and has had her own studio at Kingsgate Workshops since 1980. Tin-glazed earthenware, sometimes known as maiolica, is a traditional European earthenware technique that has informed her practice since the very beginning. She is the author of two books on the technique; Tin-glazed Earthenware (1993) and Maiolica (2011).

She makes a wide range of thrown domestic ware in the mailoca technique using in-glaze painting. Her designs are inspired by a range of natural forms, including plants, fruit, and birds. In her spare time she keeps an allotment and is a keen gardener.

She sells through Contemporary Ceramics, Contemporary Applied Arts and the Heath Robinson Museum.
