WHO WE ARE
East Finchley Open Artists – or EFOA for short – was launched in 2004. We are a diverse and committed group of local artists and craftspeople. The name East Finchley Open describes our group, we are open to all creative individuals who make their own work and want to develop their ideas. We show work in a wide range of media: painting, ceramics, jewellery, photography, silk painting, sculpture, printmaking, calligraphy, textiles, basketry, glass, felt-making and woodworking. Our work is permanently on display at www.eastfinchleyopen.org.uk and at our ongoing collaborations with Stephens House: EFOA @ Stephens House.
WHAT WE DO
Our main annual events are the summer Artists' Open House Weekends and the winter Art Fair (this year re-titled Made in East Finchley). Local patrons follow these events with keen interest and enthusiasm. At the open house weekends they can enjoy the welcoming environment of a house or studio and meet the exhibitors who are there to talk about their work on display.
In contrast to the Open House Weekends, the Art Fair takes place on one weekend with work exhibited at a local venue, so the full scope of our activities can be experienced on one vibrant occasion.
We also take an active interest in local affairs and respond with creative projects. We regularly donate to local charities and organise community art activities as opportunities present themselves. Some projects are collaborative, others educational. We forge links with businesses, shops and schools in the area as well as the nearby Phoenix Cinema, reinforcing a positive perception of East Finchley’s creative community. In 2013 we celebrated our 10th anniversary for which we produced a book reviewing our activities over the last ten years.
WHERE WE ARE GOING
We will endeavour to promote the group to a wider audience, develop our work further and organise special events. There will be fresh art on display and new artists in the group.
Over 700 patrons follow our emailed newsletter and keep up with our activities via Facebook, twitter, Instagram and our blog. If you wish to follow us, or sign up for our email newsletter, you can do so by clicking the link in the footer below, or here.
OUR CHARITY OF THE YEAR
Each year, EFO collects for and donates to a local charity. This year, it will be the Whittington Babies charity.
Whittington Babies was established in 1986 by a group of parents whose babies had spent time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Whittington Hospital in Highgate, North London. The units care for over 400 sick and premature babies every year. The charity aims to support the families of babies who spend time in the units, and the doctors and nurses who work in NICU and SCBU.
Whittington Babies is a registered charity (no 295359)
